Ground Utilities takes part in National Safe Digging Week
The UK are "Digging Blind"
As part of Digging Safely Week in July, Ground Utilities enrolled operatives and management on a major pipeline awareness course/webinar, with the help of Murray Peat, Line Watch Manager from Fisher German.
Did you know the UK is “digging blind”. Over a quarter of Brits do not check for under ground cables or pipes before they dig. As a result, one in five have hit an underground pipe or cable whilst digging or know someone who has.
12,000 each year turn to Google in a panic for emergency health and safety advice after hitting an underground pipe or cable – are you one of them, do you know someone who has? Over the last 12 months a staggering number of people have done this and have had no idea what to do next. This puts them at a significant risk.
This is why LSBUD (Linesearch BeforeUDig) launched National Safe Digging Week, to highlight the dangers of digging “blind” and raise awareness of the importance of searching before you dig. Returning for it’s fifth year, this core message has not changed since the initiative was first launched and is as true today as it has ever been.
You can eliminate the risk of searching before you dig. LSBUD has a free online search service, it takes just minutes, so you can have complete reassurance that you are digging safely. The risk of striking is never worth skipping a quick, easy and free pipeline search.
